The Minister for Labour and Social Policies, Marina Calderone, today received the Minister for Labour and Social Protection of the Republic of Moldova, Alexei Buzu, at the Ministry's headquarters in Via Veneto.
During the warm and extensive meeting, bilateral issues were discussed such as the implementation of the social security agreement between the two countries that came into force on 1st of December, with particular emphasis placed on the Moldovan diaspora in Italy and, in general, Italian backing of initial negotiations for Moldova to join the European Union.
Over the course of the discussions there was also a strong indication of the will to set up closer collaboration between the respective labour inspection departments."The goal - as stated by Minister Calderone - must be to embark on an operational collaboration between our Ministries and the inspection agencies responsible for health and safety at workplaces, also in light of the new and more stringent measures introduced by the Italian Government. It is undoubtedly essential, for prevention purposes, to promote awareness of these measures among Moldovan companies and workers who operate in large numbers in Italy and specifically in the construction sector".
