Minimum and average salary/fee: remuneration

Remuneration (Italian Constitution – Article 36; Italian Civil Code – Article 2094).

Remuneration is the consideration paid by the employer for a service performed by the employee. The amount of this fee, which is freely determined between you and your employer, must be proportional to the quantity and quality of the work you perform; regardless, it must also be sufficient to allow you and your family to live a free and dignified existence.

For this reason, the remuneration may not be below a minimum limit corresponding to the value fixed by national sectoral collective bargaining agreements for each contractual position or level (what is known as the contractual minimum or, depending on the collective bargaining agreements, minimum wage, wage floor, minimum wage floor).

As regards the remuneration initially agreed with your employer, this may be subsequently increased if you are promoted to a superior position/level or if the national collective bargaining agreements is renewed and the minimum amounts due are redefined.
