Finding employment and assistance, job centres

Before you start

If you would like to move to Italy and are looking for work, you can contact EURES advisers. You can contact EURES advisers in your country before you leave to obtain preliminary information about job offers and living and working conditions in Italy.

When you are in Italy: who can you contact?

Public job centres, private employment agencies: the public-private employment services system.

Once you are in Italy, you must register with the public job centre (Centri per l’impiego - CPI) closest to where you live and issue a declaration of immediate availability for work (dichiarazione di immediata disponibilità al lavoro).
In addition to assisting you with the DID, CPIs also provide guidance and advisory services, short training courses and matching of skills and jobs.
Many CPIs also have EURES advisers, who speak English and are qualified to help job seekers looking for job opportunities in Europe.
You can find contact details for CPIs and EURES Advisers in the Cerca sportello (branch locator) section of the ANPAL portal, selecting the item that interests you.

If you are young (under 29, or under 35 if you live in Basilicata, Calabria, Campania, Apulia, Sicily, Abruzzo, Molise and Sardinia) and unemployed, and are not in education or attending a professional training course, you can sign up to Garanzia Giovani (‘Young People’s Guarantee’) and make use of the dedicated services and projects provided under that scheme.
Find out more at https://www.anpal.gov.it/garanzia-giovani or from the CPI in your place of residence.

Declaration of immediate availability for work: where can you do this?

The DID formally registers an individual as not employed.

You can do this:

  • At a job centre
  • Online through the regional portals or Portale per le politiche attive del lavoro available in Servizi Lavoro
  • To be registered, you must have an Italian tax ID number (permanent or temporary), issued by the Italian Revenue Agency (Agenzia delle entrate) and an email address.

Next steps to find a job

After you have issued a DID, there are different options open to you:

  • If there is no immediate job offer for you, you can wait for potential future offers or undertake a training course suggested by the CPI.
  • You can contact a private employment agency. You can find a list of authorised agencies at Cerca sportello (branch locator), selecting Agenzie per il lavoro (employment agencies) as the type of search.
  • Sign in Servizi Lavoro and click Portale per le politiche attive del lavoro to upload your CV in the section Ricerca di lavoro e incentivi then select Dol – domanda e offerta di lavoro.

Consult the job offers from companies listed and submit applications for job positions that interest you.

  • Answer regional and national classified job advertisements published in magazines or daily newspapers, in tools such as the Pagine Gialle, Guida Monaci and Kompass, on the internet (websites of companies or Chambers of Commerce, specialised private portals) or on social media. Follow the specific instructions given in the advertisement concerned.
  • Send an unsolicited application, namely an application sent to companies that could potentially be interested in your profile, even if they have no positions available. The Lavora con noi (Work with us) section of company websites generally provides instructions for how to apply (CV, motivation letter and letter of introduction to personalise your application). We suggest you emphasise your strengths and goals and explain why you believe you are the right candidate for the job. For some local businesses, it may be a good idea to visit the company in person and leave your CV with the human resources or personnel manager.
